IN-SHADOW: A MODERN ODYSSEY; ANIMATED SHORT MOVIE

Updated: Sep 1, 2023

The world is squared and urban. People are homologated.

We are puppets that act under a script decided upon elsewhere and by somebody else.

Embark on a visionary journey through the fragmented unconscious of our modern times, and with courage face the Shadow. Through Shadow into Light.

We were fascinated by this graphic work. It touches all aspects of contemporary society in a sarcastic way (though profoundly and analytically in the review of all

it's aspects). It is a pleasant video which can be read at different levels and allows to discover different layers of meaning of the work.

Lubomir Arsov was born in the beautiful city of Sofia, Bulgaria, where he remained until the age of twelve and then, together with his parents, moved to Toronto where he still lives.

He starts creating comics and new stories for his characters, recognising creativity as the greatest power for communication and for the representation of emotions, moods and experiences. Soon he attends an animation school that gives him the basis and the technical skills necessary for the development of his art.

At the same time he started to consult the first Art-books, still available in libraries, in particular The Illusion of Life and The Nine Old Men which played a fundamental role in his works.

Today Lubomir is a storyboard artist, character artist and an innovative, original

animator. He has worked for major productions, such as The Ice Age and The Book of Life , has also created beautiful personal works such as In-Shadow, a journey through the fragmented unconscious of the West, that represents the precarious and degraded condition of our contemporaneity.

“Everyone carries a shadow, and the less it is embodied in the individual’s conscious life, the blacker and denser it is…if it is repressed and isolated from consciousness, it never gets corrected.”

- C.G. JUNG

The world is squared and urban. People are homologated. People are puppets that act under a script decided upon elsewhere and by somebody else. We all wear masks and live along clichés. Even education sucks our creativity and prevents out-side-the-box-thinking.

People give away their superficial happiness. Aesthetical surgery becomes the symbol of the predominance of appearance upon one’s inner being.

Food, drugs and money laundering are complementary to this way of living. Cities are just a playground for their “great game”.

The positive message - by the author – in our view is represented by our nature and human mind - the only element that can be a nutrition to the “tree of life” - which gives us the hope to see the light again (even in dark periods for our society).

“No tree, it is said, can grow to heaven unless its roots reach down to hell.”

-C.G. Jung
