GLEN MARTIN TAYLOR'S CERAMICS

The artist Glen Martin Taylor is inspired by the ancient art of kintsugi. His artworks are actual representations of the the concept of “breaking and repairing” but they are especially, as he said, manifestations of his emotions and feelings. Mr. Taylor describes his work as an autobiographical one.

WHAT PREVAILED IN YOU RELATION WITH EASTERN ARTS? WHAT PRINCIPLE TRIGGERED SUCH A DEEP RELATIONSHIP?

The rejection of my father’s religion, (Christianity), caused me to look into other ways of thinking, other beliefs and other cultures, other art.

Taoism seems to resolve so many unanswered questions for me.

WHY AN OBJECT SHOULD BE REPAIRED? WHY SHOULD HUMAN BEING BE REPAIRED?SOMETIMES IT SEEMS THAT THE OBJECT IS FORCED IN BONDS IT DOESN’T ASPIRE TO

Objects aspire to be something?

BREAKING AND REPAIRING. SOMETIMES IT SEEMS THAT OBJECTS EXPRESS PAIN… THEY NEVER DEPART FROM SUFFERING

My work is a manifestation of my emotions, all my work is autobiographical.

EVERY PIECE OF ART YOU CREATE HAS THAT BITTERSWEET TOUCH IN IT. IN YOUR ARTWORKS THERE ARE MANY RELIGIOUS SYMBOLS BUT ALSO BLASPHEMOUS ONES, LIKE THEY WERE A DECLARATION OF SKEPTICISM… DISBELIEF OR DISTRUST?

Distrust and hurt from a strict religious father.

ARTE POVERA AND KINTSUGI A PERFECT RELATION THAT ALLOWED TO INTERTWINE TWO POETICS FULL OF FEELINGS. COULD YOU PLEASE TELL US HOW THE CHOICE OF THE SUPPORTIVE MATERIAL WAS BORN?

Most of my materials are related to my childhood, sewing materials and dishes from my mother, tools, nails, wires form my father.

DOES IT EXIST A SPECIFIC CREATIVE PATTERN OR IS IT JUST A PURE VISUAL INSPIRATION?

I have many ways of reaching expression, I allow the process to be whatever way works for me.

A BREAKUP CAN BE ALSO A SORT OF LIBERATION MAYBE AN ESCAPE FROM AN OPPRESSIVE BOUNDARY SO WHY FORCE A FATE THAT HAS ALREADY DECIDED DIFFERENTLY?

I don’t break two objects, like a relationship, I break one, like a single e soul, I’m very interested in sounds finding imperfect wholeness.

HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THE DIFFERENT REACTIONS YOUR ARTWORKS CAN PROVOKE TO THE AUDIENCE?

I enjoy all the reactions to my work, especially if it helps someone not to feel alone.
