“I’m not a pretentious person who wants to be remembered for something he did; my only wish is to be able to express my true self on stage, not to be remembered, but to bring my emotions to life.”
Born in 1991. Claudio Coviello is the rising star of dance in Italy. He comes from Potenza (Italy) and since 2013 he is the principal dancer at “Teatro alla Scala” in Milan.
Let’s walk through his peculiar path; when he was on holiday in a village in the south of Italy with his family, he discovered his true vocation: transforming music into movement. During an end-of-year dance recital, he was spotted by a principal dancer of “Teatro dell’Opera” in Rome, who encouraged him to show his talent; when he was only 10, supported by his grandparents - to whom he owes everything -, he moved to Rome to pursue his dream. With constant dedication, he achieved such a great success that he managed to dance on the most prestigious stages with the greatest female dancers of all time: Natalia Osipova (Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet, Histoire de Manon, Don Quixote); Maria Ehicwald (Giselle, The Nutcracker); Tamara Rojo (Don Quixote); Sarah Lamb (Histoire de Manon).
His path is a quest for beauty: not only the outer beauty, which is evident to everyone, but especially the inner one, which he brings to stage every time he dances. This is his distinctive way of conceiving art: inner beauty is the key to transform a ballet into an emotionally charged moment to enjoy with the audience. Through the inner beauty he can express himself in every performance; and anyone who is connected with his soul can perceive it.
“I’m not a pretentious person who wants to be remembered for something he did; my only wish is to be able to express my true self on stage, not to be remembered, but to bring my emotions to life.”
There are other forms of art that inspire him every day and that are fundamental for his aesthetic: first of all, music, which he loves to listen to also at home, and then photography, that can capture the essence of beauty, tearing it from the transience of time.
Love and friendship have turned him into someone who can clearly see the true value of things, that lies behind the characters he plays. The keys to enter his inner self, which is based on those two important values, are kept by very few trustworthy people.
So, underneath his stage costumes and behind the characters he plays, lies the soul of a man, who, through ballet, wants to move his audience and convey the purest and most beautiful emotions in the world.
